Music & Me
Hello Everybody! My name is Andy Alvarenga. I am a student-athlete here at Converse University, where I am a member of the Men's Soccer team. I've listened to music my whole life, but never got into becoming a musician. I began by listening to the types of music my family would listen to, which was mostly Latin music. However, as I got older, I started to develop my own style of music, incorporating some of my parents' and brothers' music tastes.
I grew up in McKinney, Texas, and moved to a neighboring town, Melissa, Texas, about 5 years ago. I attended McKinney North High School before coming to Converse and played for a local club soccer team by the name of FC Dallas. I am also from Honduras. I was born in the US, but my parents are from Honduras. I am majoring in Accounting and hope to become an accountant after graduating from college.
I mostly listen to music when I am driving or before a game, but I have recently started to like just playing music whenever I can. I like listening to a lot of R&B type of music, like Daniel Cesar, Frank Ocean, and CAS. The music is very smooth and chill with a little pop in it. I started listening to this type of music in my Junior year of high school, as it was when it started to get popular again. My favorite song right now is Japanese Denim by Daniel Cesar. Check it out below.
2. Music that is meaningful to me.
One place where I get my music taste from is my family, which is why I enjoy listening to Spanish music, like Bachata, and why it is very meaningful to me. This style comes from the Dominican Republic and has a romantic style with nice melodies. My favorite artists who sing Bachata music are Romeo Santos and Prince Royce. They were introduced to me at a very young age, as I would listen to them all the time at parties or at home. My favorite piece of Bachata music is Corazon Sin Cara by Prince Royce. Listen to it below.
2. Music that I don't like
One type of Music that I don't like is Heavy Metal. It is just loud and aggressive, with intense drumming and guitars that scare me, honestly. I think it is just very different from what I hear now, so I just don't really enjoy it. I believe that whatever music you listen to matches your personality in a way; I know it's not true for everyone, but it is what I have observed in most people. The first time I heard a sort of Heavy Metal was when I was watching Diary of the Wimpy Kid for the first time as a kid, and the main character's brother was in a band called Loaded Diaper. Here is a song they played in the movie below.
Hey! I enjoyed reading your post! I also have a love for Bachata and absolutely love Prince Royce! Corazon is one of my favorites of his. It makes me think of one of my closest childhood friends who introduced me to Spanish music.
ReplyDeleteHi Andy! I enjoyed reading your blog; I think your music taste is great. The R&B style is super interesting, and it's my favorite to listen to when doing school work because of the chill vibe. I also definitely like my Latin music, and I was actually taught recently how to dance Bachata as well!

ReplyDeleteYoo Andy what's up! I really enjoyed reading and listening to the song that you put in your blog. The most interesting song to me was the third one cause I was thinking of putting one song in that genre. I don't like that type of song either because it's like people just being loud and I don't enjoy listening to it. One song that I really love was the Corazon sin cara by Prince Royce, and you made me go back to those days when I used to listen to Bachata.
